In the first of the articles looking at what has happened in the five years that CallamMcMillan.com has been online, we look at the actions of stupidity. This has to be the easiest of the articles to write since actually, stupidity hasn't changed at all. People were as stupid in 2007 as they are today. What has changed is the visibility that that stupidity has had.
I must admit that I stopped riding my bike a couple of years ago now, after it decided to fall apart like a clown's comedy car. Around that time I also realised how much better my car was for getting me to university. I now had a comfortable seat, a roof and windows to keep me warm and dry and an engine that meant I wasn't all hot and sweaty when I finally arrived at university. Now I'm at work I still have now call for a bike, instead walking and using the train.
What is my point? Well in 24 years of cycling, a person with no hands can count how many times I have been run over on their fingers. That's right. Zero. Now take amongst others Paula Jurek, Daniel Cox and Wan-Chen Chang. All of these people have been killed at junctions by left turning lorries while on their bicycles. Looking through news articles however it is clear that these are not isolated cases.

News from the Caribbean island of St Maarten where the airport backs onto the beach, meaning that anybody stupid enough can ignore the signs warning of injury and death hang onto the airport fence for dear life while being blasted with the wake from a plane preparing for takeoff. Today's idiot did exactly that... And lost! Better still there is video of it happening.
